Crawl spaces are prime breeding grounds for fungus. Fungus grows when wood and moisture meet and can be dangerous if not treated.  In the Southeast, humidity levels are high, thus creating a major problem for several crawl spaces in the area.

There are two main types of fungus that may develop in your crawl space:

1. White fungus- this is caused by consistently wet wood (ex: standing water or leaking pipes)
2. Brown fungus- this thrives in high moisture or humid environments

Fungus, if not treated, can cause several problems for homeowners. Once fungus is present in your crawl space, it can leak into the air of the home, causing illness to you and your family. Unhealthy air is especially dangerous to individuals with respiratory illnesses such as asthma and allergies.
